Since Christmas 2007, the Città di Carpi Mountain Hut has also been open during the winter season. Every day from December 26th to January 7th and only on weekends (Saturday and Sunday) for the rest of the winter (usually until the end of March, weather conditions permitting).
For updated information on openings and reservations, please contact us at rifugiocarpi@libero.it.
During the winter opening period it is possible to reach the hut on foot, on snowshoes or on mountaineering skis.
The path that starts from Lake Misurina climbs under the Col de Varda chairlift (since it is not possible to cross the ski slopes) and then reconnects with the summer route, i.e. path no. 120.
If you would like to take a longer tour, you can start from the old Cristallo Hotel in Federavecchia and reach our refuge on a groomed trail in about 3 hours. With a small detour it’s possible to take a break at Malga Maraia.
To be able to open during the cold winter months, it was necessary to proceed with some interventions to adapt the structure to the different weather conditions that the winter season presents.
From the heating system to the insulation, to the water supply, everything has been prepared to face the winter at 2,100 meters above sea level, which can sometimes be mild and sunny, but is often cold and very windy.
To transport supplies from Misurina, as well as to groom the snow on the path that leads to the hut, we own a small snowcat as well as a snowmobile.
During the winter openings it is also possible to stay overnight (reservation is mandatory).
The rooms are not heated, but a convector in the corridor slightly warms up the five rooms.
On the beds you will also find warm duvets, so sleeping in the hut, even in the winter season, is still comfortable.
